Carmel, Indiana (PRWEB) December 05, 2015 -- A new technology launched by Active Technologies, is proving the effectiveness of chiropractic treatments. The technology, using wearable, wireless sensors that fit in a patient’s shoe, has shown reduced foot pressures and improved active symmetry in patients’ pre- and post-treatment recordings. The technology is used to measure the pressures exerted on the foot and the company plans to launch campaigns aimed at consumers interested in greater comfort and athletic performance. “Pressures cause pain and if you can reduce or redistribute the active pressures in the feet, you get less pain,” said Dr. Todd McDougle, D.C., the first chiropractor to commercially use the system.
Active Technologies is the result of years of work by Indianapolis based medical device engineer, Vince Rizzo. The technology is being marketed to chiropractors exclusively. Chiropractors will be able to measure the active foot pressure of a patient during an office visit and use the pressure score to make modification to treatments and to manufacture a custom functional insole for comfort or to stabilize the treatment.
Active Technologies measures active foot pressures within one pound per square inch and can manufacture a pressure redistributing orthotic within one millimeter of measured values. This assessment is based on the full gait cycle of a patient as opposed to having the patient only take one step, or mapping the foot while standing – which are called static assessments.
“This system is unique in that it measures dynamic pressures,” explains Rizzo. “It is not just visually mapping the foot.”
“It is showing significant change pre and post adjustment in active walking for 30 seconds,” explains McDougle. “Active Technologies gives us the opportunity in chiropractic to do something we’ve never done in 120 years of our existence: to evaluate the active motion of the gait cycle and pressure in the feet in PSI, with real data.”
A research study was conducted and evaluated the technology by dynamically measuring the foot pressures and symmetry ratios of patients before and after chiropractic treatment. This study evaluated 18 patients in the offices of Dr. McDougle, D.C. The study showed a direct, positive correlation between the improvements to patient symmetry and reduced foot pressures and Dr. McDougle’s treatment. Additional studies are underway. About Active Technologies
Active Technologies is an Indiana company that invented and patented a system that will allow a licensed healthcare provider to collect active pressure data from a walking patient and reveal a person’s active pressure footprint. This data, collected using hundreds of sensors and thousands of scans per second, is uploaded to proprietary software that will communicate with a desktop machining system to mill a custom pressure shoe insole, called ActivePrints, in about 20 minutes.
