New Websites Empower Consumers with Holistic Healthcare Information and Access to Local Practitioners
St. Paul, Minnesota (PRWEB) January 19, 2016 -- More Americans are turning to alternative medicine to supplement, or in some cases replace, their traditional healthcare. According to a survey by the National Institutes of Health, approximately one-third of Americans seek help for their health from a place that is outside of their doctor’s office. From managing stress to reducing exposure to toxins and improving gut health, people are seeking out more holistic ways to care for themselves in conjunction with, or as an alternative to traditional drugs and therapies. Healthcare consumers are becoming more open to different approaches to treating disease and illness and generally living their best and most healthful life and they’re actively seeking information about those approaches.
Enter Beyond the Basics Health Academy, a new resource designed to empower people who are exploring a variety of ways to improve their health. The website was started by Dr. Meaghan Kirschling, who has both an allopathic and alternative medical background. She holds a Doctor of Chiropractic Degree as well as, a B.S. in Nursing and Exercise Science, a Master of Nutrition, and a Master of Nursing in Women’s Health. Dr. Kirschling has seen the benefits of removing barriers and biases and taking an open-minded look at all the available health and wellness information that is available and she wants to share those benefits with the world.
“The best thing people can do for their health is arm themselves with the information they need to make decisions about how they’ll take charge of their health and wellness,” says Kirschling. “Beyond the Basics is about bringing information to the table and creating a dialog. There is a great benefit in finding ways to integrate holistic approaches with traditional medicine. The key is helping people understand how they can work together.”
Beyond the Basics Health Academy features a daily podcast on a wide range of topics from obesity and cancer to fasting and organic farming. The website also offers recipes, book and documentary reviews, and online courses. Beyond The Basics has seen incredible success so far. Since launching in June of 2015, the podcasts have earned more than 10,000 downloads from listeners in 101 different countries.
The next phase of the project is the launch of a connected provider directory called OneAgora, where people can locate a provider in their area, and where providers can share their information and resources with a large audience of health-minded individuals. This directory will help complete the mission of Beyond the Basics Health Academy to “educate globally and treat locally.”
