Determination of moisture content is typically performed via loss on drying using a drying oven as the reference method. However, this is a tedious procedure, with many manual steps, and often takes hours to yield a result. Much faster measurement can be achieved using halogen moisture analyzers, which are easy-to-use and give a direct result in a fraction of the time.
Halogen moisture analysis is also based on the principle of loss on drying, but moisture determination usually takes 5 to 15 minutes, compared with 2 to 3 hours using a drying oven. The other key benefit is simplicity, as a direct measurement result is generated with no subsequent calculation steps necessary. This makes halogen moisture analysis well-suited for conducting reliable measurements both in the laboratory environment and on the production line.

If the differences are not found to be significant, the methods are considered equivalent.
