The first Brazilian Day in NYC, which took place 29 years ago, drew a few hundred people. Organizers considered those early events a success, but Brazilian Day would continue to grow each year into the huge celebration that it is today.
Spanning 25 city blocks surrounding New York’s Little Brazil, the New York event now draws 1.5 million people. Some travel just a few miles from their homes in New York and New Jersey. Others come from as far away as Africa and Japan to enjoy the festivities. Even people in Brazil love this celebration, and it is broadcast each year on Brazilian TV.
The 2013 celebration includes performances by Zeca Pagodinho and Gusttavo Lima. Attendees can feast on authentic Brazilian food, purchase arts and crafts and enjoy the many activities available for all ages as they stroll through the streets to the sounds of the samba drums.
The large population of Brazilians that live in New York help to assure that every part of this event is authentic, and is a true representation of the Brazilian culture.
