New York Film Academy Launches Virtual Reality Workshops
(PRWEB) December 07, 2016 -- Virtual Reality (VR) is one the fastest-growing areas of creative expression and technical innovation, making it the new frontier in storytelling.
“VR is unlike any other audio-visual storytelling platform because it immerses users inside an experience and gives them agency — thereby invoking a depth of emotion and interactivity comparable to real life,” says Phoebe Elefante, Chair of Animation.
With more and more storytellers looking to break into this new medium, the New York Film Academy is now offering three distinct hands-on VR programs, beginning February 6, 2017.
The three NYFA VR programs will be broken down into the following:
• Intro to Interactive VR: This program is designed for anyone who wants a practical foundation in the production of interactive VR, including: 3D Modeling & Animation for asset creation, Coding in C#, and implementation in the Unity 3D game engine.
• VR Game Design: This program builds on the Intro’s foundation and focuses on game design techniques applied in the VR space. Students are required to complete the Intro course, or submit a portfolio demonstrating equivalent skills in 3D Modeling/Animation and/or development in Unity.
• Narrative VR Filmmaking: NYFA’s Filmmaking Department has brought together industry leading VR storytellers for the purpose of designing a hands-on, intensive and comprehensive 360 degree video production workshop. Narrative VR Filmmaking provides an in-depth introduction to the world of 360 degree video production including: writing for VR, directing the actors and audience in 360, multi-lens cinematography and VR post production.
An Interactive Open House and Information Session about the New York Film Academy’s Virtual Reality programs will be held at 17 Battery Place in New York City on Saturday, Dec. 10, 2016, from 2-4 p.m. EST. You can RSVP to attend at vr(at)nyfa(dot)edu.
Chair of Animation & Game Design Phoebe Elefante and Chair of Short-Term Filmmaking Jonathan Whittaker will present an overview of the 360/VR landscape, the incredible creative and financial opportunities, and the hands-on, intensive workshops designed to build the conceptual and practical foundations for those interested in using 360 video and interactive VR to express their creative visions.
"In a medium where the rules have not yet been written, VR presents such a unique opportunity for the storytellers of tomorrow as our students will be able to blaze new trails and quickly become leaders of the industry," said Whittaker.
Following the presentation, guests are invited to experience the 360 video and interactive VR content created by NYFA’s slate of VR Instructors, all of whom are working professionals leading the revolution of content in this new medium.
