New York Personal Injury Lawyer David Perecman Supports Comprehensive Safety Review of Metro-North Following Train Derailment
New York, New York (PRWEB) December 17, 2013 -- Personal injury lawyer David Perecman, founder of The Perecman Firm, lauds a Federal Railroad Administration safety assessment that will deeply examine the operations and “safety culture” of the Metro-North Railroad. According to The New York Time s (12.13.13), this type of in-depth investigation has never been conducted for a passenger railroad before.
The safety review is a consequence of the recent derailment and “a series of episodes on Metro-North” this year, said The New York Times.
“We cannot go back in time and bring back or completely heal those innocent people who were killed or injured in train accidents, but we can move forward and create an environment of trust and safety,” said Perecman.
The comprehensive review and assessment will include analysis of the procedures at control centers, employee protection, communication, locomotive engineer oversight, and maintenance of track, signals and rolling stock, according to a press release (FRA 31-1 3, 12.12.13) issued by the United States Department of Transportation. The investigation, known as Operation Deep Dive, is expected to last 60 days.
The latest Metro-North incident was a commuter train derailment that killed four people and injured more than 60. The accident occurred after a train operator allegedly lost focus and went into a daze while at the controls, and took a sharp curve at high speed, said The New York Times.
Other Metro-North train incidents this year include a train collision in May, which injured many passengers; the death of a track foreman who was hit after a trainee rail traffic controller opened a section of track without proper clearance, also in May; and a freight train derailment in July, reported The New York Times.
One goal of the railroad administration is to “help restore public confidence in Metro-North” said the press release.
“There are no short cuts to safety. It is something that must be maintained day in and day out, year in and year out,” said Perecman.
