New York University College of Nursing Honors NLN CEO Dr. Beverly Malone
Washington, DC (PRWEB) June 30, 2014 -- As keynote speaker, the CEO of the National League for Nursing, Beverly Malone, PhD, RN, FAAN, brought her message of service and scholarship to the 606 graduates of the New York University College of Nursing. The college also honored Dr. Malone with its coveted Helen Manzer Award, during graduation exercises at New York City Center last month. Dean Eileen Sullivan-Marx presented the award to Dr. Malone in recognition of exemplary leadership on behalf of the nation’s health.
Dean Sullivan-Marx noted: “Beverly Malone is an inspiration to all nurses and particularly our graduates who have their full nursing careers ahead of them. She is an outspoken leader, engaged and committed to preparing a diverse nursing workforce focused on advancing the nation’s health. She has been a tireless advocate for increased support for nursing workforce development and advanced education for nurse educators to address the persistent shortage of nurses that threatens health care delivery. At NYU College of Nursing, we are thrilled to have Beverly Malone speak to the remarkable Class of 2014.”
“I feel privileged to have been chosen for this prestigious recognition and to have had the opportunity to appear before my distinguished colleagues and especially to talk to the 2014 graduating class,” said Dr. Malone. “As they exit the halls of academe, diplomas in hand, I am confident they will make a difference in the delivery of patient care and in advancing the health of our nation, regardless of the direction their careers may take: into clinical practice, nursing education, or scholarship. The standard of excellence in instruction at NYUCN has seen to that.”
The college’s graduates earned bachelor’s of science in nursing, as well as advanced degrees that qualify them to become nurse educators: master’s; advanced certificates; doctors in nursing practice; and doctors of philosophy in nursing research and theory development.
Previous winners of the Helen Manzer Award include former US Secretary of Health and Human Services Donna Shalala, under whom Dr. Malone served in the Clinton Administration.
