New Yorkers United for Kids Applauds Putnam County for Passing a Resolution to Stop Common Core
Carmel, NY (PRWEB) July 16, 2015 -- Putnam County Legislators unanimously passed a resolution to call upon the elected in Albany to Stop Common Core. During the July 7, 2015 monthly meeting held at the Historic Putnam County Courthouse Legislators resoundingly declared their support to pass the resolution ( Audio Clips from July 7 Meeting Vote - http://nyunited4kids.com/2015/07/stop-common-core-putnam-county-wants-to-bring-it-to-a-halt/ and https://soundcloud.com/putnam-county-legislature/sets/full-meeting-070715).
The passage of this resolution is a victory for the Stop Common Core movement as it sends the message to Albany that the people want their children’s education to reside under local, not Federal, control. Putnam County joins other counties that have passed similar resolutions which began in Ulster County in November 2014 (http://ulstercountyny.gov/news/legislature/ulster-county-legislators-voice-opposition-federal-common-core-initiative).
Members of New Yorkers United for Kids spoke with legislators to dispel the myths of Common Core. One of which is that the states willingly adopted the program. According to members of the association, “Several rules of law were broken in this scheme to rewrite education when the federal government bribed and coerced states to adopt it.” New York has had Common Core for three years. “The Emperor’s got not clothes,” said Cathy Sapeta from NYU4K, “the deceptive marking of Common Core can never disguise the harm that is being done to the children of New York.”
According to NYU4K the damage to our children is the result of the age inappropriate curriculum found in Common Core. In a press conference on March 17, 2015 elected officials from the New York State Assembly and Senate testified with such stories. New Yorkers United for Kids encourages other counties to follow Putman County’s lead and pass similar resolutions to send a strong message to Albany to Repeal Common Core Now!
“We encourage every citizen to do their part at their local and state level to push back on Common Core,” said Sapeta.
