New York, NY (PRWEB) December 16, 2015 -- Trilogy, a certified natural skincare company from New Zealand, was invited by the Global Marine and Polar Programme at the International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN), in partnership with Prince Albert II of Monaco Foundation, to present at a workshop in Monaco last month. Attended by large, well-known global companies including Philips, Nestle and L’Oreal, the workshop was convened to discuss innovative solutions and best practices in the production, recycling and waste management of plastic products. Trilogy, known for its commitment to producing ethical and sustainable, high-performing natural skincare products, was selected to demonstrate to private sector representatives that environmental responsibility and a healthy market position can go hand-in-hand.
Trilogy was the first New Zealand skincare brand to become carbon neutral, achieving certification in 2007. The brand’s mantra is ‘maximum effect on your skin, minimum effect on our environment' and its products are made from sustainably sourced pure plant oils and active botanical ingredients. Trilogy came to the attention of the IUCN for its stance on the use of plastic microbeads, a key contributor to microplastic pollution in our oceans, in the personal care industry. Instead of plastic microbeads, which are used in a wide variety of products, particularly scrubs, Trilogy uses jojoba wax microspheres, a fully biodegradable, natural alternative to polyethylene beads, in its Gentle Facial Exfoliant.
“Plastic microbeads can not only irritate the surface of the skin, these tiny, non-biodegradable pieces of plastic are washed down the drain and out to sea, where they are ingested by marine life and disrupt the natural balance of our oceans,” said Trilogy Sales and Marketing Manager and in-house beauty expert Corinne Morley, who presented at the workshop. “The seriousness of this problem has led California to ban microbeads in cosmetic products, and has also led to the creation of an international campaign that we are proud to be associated with, called ‘Beat the Microbead’.”
Trilogy holds NATRUE Natural Cosmetics Certification, an internationally recognised accreditation which guarantees cruelty-free and environmentally friendly practices. Products bearing the NATRUE mark are non-GMO, made from entirely natural ingredients and do not contain synthetic fragrances, colors or preservatives, petroleum-derived ingredients, silicone oils or derivatives.
Trilogy packaging is fully recyclable and uses FSC (Forest Stewardship Council) certified paper and board. Non-bio-accumulating vegetable-based bio-inks and varnishes are used and the brand avoids over-packaging its products. Trilogy further reduces its carbon footprint by using local suppliers where it can for boxes, labels and point-of-sale materials. Earlier this year Trilogy confirmed compliance to a new Australian law, “Illegal Logging Prohibition Act,” which requires confirmation that the timber products used in the supply chain are from ethical sources and haven’t been obtained from illegal logging.
