This is the first Best Practice related to the Use of Force issued by a professional security organization.
The IAPSC is a recognized and respected association committed to establishing and maintaining the highest standards for security consultants. This Best Practice was developed using a consensus-based and peer-reviewed methodology. The Best Practice addresses the much debated topic of the Use of Force as it applies to the security industry, includes valuable references, legal case law, sample policy, as guidance for organizations in establishing a Use of Force Policy.
"This Best Practice addresses Use of Force in a direct and meaningful way for organizations to use when evaluating and implementing policy, procedure, training and guidance to security personnel," said Alan W. Zajic, CPP, CSP, co-author of the IAPSC Best Practice guideline. The Best Practice also provides a sample policy statement that can be adapted by a business to develop its own policy and also defines Use of Force factors.
Steven T. Baker CPP, PSP, PCI, a Security Consultant with VTI Associates in Las Vegas Nevada has referenced the Guideline in professional reports and University courses discussing the Use of Force by non-sworn security personnel. Baker states that “The IAPSC guideline provides a starting point for discussing use of force by non-sworn personnel and provides a reference for use in training those individuals in the appropriate use of force.”
