NewVo Beauty Comments on Habits That Lead to Damaged Hair and How to Properly Use Flat Irons
Bohemia, NY (PRWEB) October 10, 2013 -- Online beauty supply store NewVo Beauty comments on an article by The Daily Record that shares tips on how to break bad hair care habits.
According to the article published on October 4th, titled “A simple six-step guide on how to break your bad hair care habits,” practicing bad hair care routines can leave it worse off than before you started.
The article shares tips for breaking bad hair habits and ways to help repair hair damage:
• Flat Irons - This habit is one of the worst, says Scottish hairdresser Taylor Ferguson, who provides the tips in the article. “Applying any form of heat to your hair is risky and my advice is do it as little as possible,” he says. Ferguson recommends restricting the use of flat irons. Sara Greenstone, a representative for online beauty supply store NewVo Beauty, says that misusing flat irons can be detrimental to hair health. “Make sure you use them on low heat and use a thermal protection spray. Any temperature setting above medium is excessive and may cause your hair to burn.”
• Washing Hair Every Day - Washing hair daily can actually make it oilier. Wash hair only 3 times a week and use a dry-shampoo if necessary.
• Overuse of Conditioner - While you may think that using conditioner can leave you with silky hair, leaving it in or forgetting to wash it out can make your hair greasy.
“Always make sure to choose a conditioner that best suits your hair,” says Greenstone. “If you have naturally oily hair, don’t opt for a hydrating conditioner - it will leave your hair with excess moisture.”
• Home-Dyeing - “These products are ‘one size fits all’ so there’s little or no account taken for your skin tones or your exact natural hair colouring,” says the article. Ferguson recommends visiting a salon, since stylists have training and can account for variables such as skin tone.
• Touching Hair - This is a bad habit that can result in bald spots. Since “trichotillomania – the term describing urges to touch, twist or pull their own hair” – is not often realized by the person who is doing it, this can be a hard habit to break. Try using a stress ball, which will take attention off touching hair.
• Blow-Drying - Don’t excessively blow dry your hair; the heat from the blow dryer can cause damage. “You must always take the necessary precautions with heated styling tools. With the right preparation and products, you can greatly diminish the threat of heat damage,” says Greenstone.
