Next Conference for Federal Testosterone Treatment Lawsuits Scheduled for July 9th

According to court documents, the Conference will be convened at 11:00 a.m. on July 9th. The Northern District of Illinois is home to more than 1,500 testosterone lawsuits, all of which have been consolidated before a single judge for the purposes of coordinated pretrial proceedings. Testosterone Litigation
Court documents indicate that all of the testosterone lawsuits pending in the Northern District of Illinois were filed on behalf of men who allegedly suffered heart attacks, strokes, pulmonary embolism, deep vein thrombosis and other serious cardiovascular problems due to their use of low testosterone therapy. The lawsuits point out that the drugs have only been approved to treat men who suffer from hypogonadism, or low testosterone that is the result of an underlying injury or medical condition. But plaintiffs allege that the manufacturers of prescription testosterone treatments have marketed the products as appropriate treatments for diminished testosterone that is merely associated with the normal male aging process.
According to court documents, the U.S. Food & Drug Administration’s (FDA) launched a review of the cardiovascular risks potentially associated with prescription testosterone products in January 2014.* The results of that review were announced by the FDA on March 3, 2015, at which time the agency ordered the manufacturers of prescription testosterone treatments to update their labels with information regarding a potential association with an increased risk of heart attack and stroke. The FDA also directed that the labels clearly state that the drugs have not been proven safe and effective for treating low testosterone related to male aging.
