NFI Builds and Donates Bicycles to Benefit UrbanPromise Children
Cherry Hill, N.J. (PRWEB) October 23, 2013 -- One hundred of NFI’s Information Technology (IT) professionals assembled and donated bikes to children from Camden, New Jersey’s UrbanPromise AfterSchool Program on Thursday, October 17. The event took place at Burlington County Community College Enterprise Center on the Mount Laurel Campus.
With Social Responsibility as one of NFI’s six core values, the company is honored to have had this opportunity to collaborate with UrbanPromise. NFI is committed to creating a positive impact within the community, including other cities within Camden County, NJ, like Camden.
The afternoon started with a team building activity where the IT employees were assigned to a team of ten, with a total of ten teams. The activity consisted of various “Minute to Win It” challenges using common household items. Upon completing the challenges, the teams assembled the bikes ensuring they are all functional and safe.
What NFI IT professionals thought was a just a team building event, turned into much more. Ten children from UrbanPromise AfterSchool Program, ranging from first to fourth graders, arrived by bus. Andy Joshua, UrbanPromise Director of Children and Youth Ministry, briefly spoke to NFI participants giving them an overview of what UrbanPromise does for the youth in Camden. Each NFI IT group then presented their bikes to each of the deserving children.
Joshua stated, “NFI providing these bicycles is such a blessing to a group of our kids who would not otherwise have a bike. This is their opportunity to learn how to ride, which opens up doors for exercise, fun, and transportation. We are really excited to be a part of this.”
The kids from UrbanPromise were each excited to have a new bike. “I'm going to be so good at driving my bicycle. It’s so cool,” exclaimed second grader Israel, age 7. Third grader, Mecca, age 8, added, "I'm going to remember this day forever." Second grader, Jachirah, age 7, agreed, “This is the best day ever."
The event was a success. NFI’s IT professionals got to not only grow closer as a team, but to also give back to the community, and create a special bond with the children from UrbanPromise.
