Nighthawk’s New RDM-960 ERT Collector Meter Adds AMI Smart Features to Existing Meters
Irving, TX (PRWEB) January 15, 2014 -- Nighthawk announces the launch of its new RDM-960 AMI module with ERT Collector option, integrated within an advanced electric meter platform.
Nighthawk’s RDM-960 is both a standalone AMI (Advanced Metering Infrastructure) meter and simultaneously an ERT Collector, listening for ERT (Encoder Receiver Transmitter radio) readings broadcast by other meters in its immediate vicinity. This optional ERT Collector functionality collects both high-power and low-power ERT readings and backhauls them over cellular network to Utility Web-Connect™, Nighthawk’s award-winning Cloud-based command and control system.
When strategically deployed near other AMR (Automated Meter Reading) meters, including electric, gas and water, Nighthawk RDM-960 meters can automatically collect all AMR readings. By replacing just a small fraction of their installed meters utilities currently using one way meter read technology can create a full advanced metering system with over the air reads. This includes advanced features such as remote disconnect, voltage monitoring, TOU and outage detection. Dual service utilities can have all of their reads brought back to the WebConnect head end for billing and analysis. The RDM-960 meter can be an extremely cost-effective alternative for collecting automated meter readings.
This meter joins Nighthawk’s popular RDM-940/950 AMI disconnect meters and CEO-940/950 disconnect collars already in service with many utilities. Like those devices, the RDM-960 AMI meter uses cellular backhaul for communications and delivery of the collected meter readings to the Cloud. From there, these meter readings can be automatically uploaded into MDM (Meter Data Management), CIS (Customer Information) or utility billing systems.
Nighthawk products use Utility WebConnect™, a Cloud based Web application running 24/7, and connected to multiple communications gateways, both issuing commands to remote devices and receiving information from them. Utility WebConnect™ interoperates directly over the Web or via automated data uploads with most utility billing systems. Even when utility personnel are not online, Utility WebConnect™ is collecting meter readings, issuing automated batch commands to devices and alerting utility personnel of alarming events via cellular text messages or email.
