NimbeLink Introduces Cellular Shield for FRDM-K64F
Plymouth, MN (PRWEB) July 23, 2015 -- Freescale’s FRDM-K64F development platform includes a variety of peripherals including a 6-axis digital accelerometer and magnetometer, a tri-colored LED, push-buttons for direct interaction and feedback, and expansion memory with a micro SD card slot. But it doesn’t include the cellular connectivity that is critical to many applications in the Internet of Things. NimbeLink’s Skywire™ mbed Shield allows easy integration of that cellular connectivity.
The NimbeLink shield plugs into the K64 development board and, in turn, accepts any of NimbeLink’s plug-in Skywire™ end-device certified, cellular modems. In addition, the shield adds integrated MEMS sensors including its own accelerometer, a temperature sensor, an atmospheric pressure sensor, and a humidity sensor. The shield also provides headers compatible with those on the Arduino board, including compatibility with hundreds of expansion boards for the addition of screens, motor controllers, and more.
The FRDM-K64F shield is the newest of NimbeLink Skywire™ shields and capes that allow easy addition of Skywire™ modems for cellular connectivity to popular microcontrollers and microprocessors. NimbeLink also offers complete development kits to simplify prototyping and speed product development. “Our Skywire™ modems are end-device certified,” says NimbeLink CTO Kurt Larson. “That certification is required for any device that accesses the cellular network, and can cost up to $100,000 and take up to six months to obtain. Using the shield, the Skywire™ modem plugs right into your device and gets products to market faster. Our development kits take the hassle out of prototyping.”
The Skywire™ mbed shield is compatible with any of NimbeLink’s Skywire™ 2G, 3G, or 4G LTE modems, the smallest embedded modems on the market. Skywire™ modems are available with bundled data plans and complete development kits and can be purchased through Digi-Key (http://www.digikey.com) and Arrow Electronics (http://www.arrow.com).
