Nine Marine Corp Marathon Runners Raise Over $20,000
Alexandria, Va (PRWEB) October 29, 2013 -- Although the government shutdown caused some uncertainty among the organizers of the Marine Corps Marathon, that didn’t stop the Run to Remember team from continuing their training and fundraising efforts for hospice.
Together, these individuals all running in memory of loved ones, raised over $20,000 to support hospice care through the National Hospice Foundation’s Run to Remember athletic fundraising program.
The National Hospice Foundation celebrated with a few members of the team at a pre-marathon dinner the night before. “I really enjoyed meeting the runners and hearing their stories. And being able to tell them why I was running,” said John Mastrojohn III, NHF executive director. “We are deeply grateful for their efforts.”
Mastrojohn was raising funds and running in memory of his two grandmothers.
Through Run to Remember, runners and walkers train for races of varying lengths, honor their loved one’s memories, and raise money for hospice. The program benefits local hospices across the country, as well as NHF’s national work to advance hospice care at the national level.
