Nishi Pearls Pays Bi-annual Visit to Asia to Attend Prominent Hong Kong Tradeshows
Montreal, Quebec (PRWEB) March 19, 2015 -- In early March, Nishi Pearls made its way to the Hong Kong International Diamond, Gem & Pearl Show as well as the Hong Kong International Jewellery Show to browse the vast selection of raw gemstones on display, particularly pearls. Both trade shows are hosted by the Hong Kong Trade Development Council and consist of specialized international trading arenas that bring together traders and buyers within the jewelry industry. With an increased turnout rate of 2% from last year, the trade shows are attended by thousands of buyers from around the world, as both shows have gathered nearly 76,000 buyers from 140 different countries and regions while over 4,000 exhibitors from 52 countries have displayed their goods.
The Diamond, Gem & Pearl show focuses on providing raw materials, including loose diamonds, precious and semi-precious stones and pearls. It is divided into three separate zones including the Hall of Fine Diamonds in which loose diamonds were presented, and Treasures of Nature which displayed different cuts of rare precious stones. For its second edition this year, the show has newly introduced the Treasures of Ocean zone which showcased a broad selection of pearls. The inclusion of this new zone reflects the current steady demand for pearls.
During its 32nd edition, the Jewellery Show welcomed over 46,000 enthusiastic visitors and housed thousands of jewelry booths to navigate through finished jewelry. Its 8 separate zones were divided according to buyers’ select needs, following a trend VicenzaOro had launched earlier this year and which Nishi Pearls had also attended. These zones include Hall of Fame, which houses some of the most prestigious international brands and Hall of Extraordinary, which showcases elite fine jewelry.
This year’s Jewellery Show was noteworthy for the introduction of the new Natural Diamond Quality Assurance mark, initiated by the Diamond Federation of Hong Kong, with the aim of gathering traders and suppliers who will refrain from selling any form of non-natural diamonds. Another highlight of the show included an international jewelry design competition that featured 191 submissions from 31 countries, in which the winner was announced at the International Jewellery Design Excellence Award Presentation Ceremony.
According to Arka Akkelian, International Operations Manager at Nishi Pearls, it appears that two of the most popular gems, diamonds and pearls, continue to be available at strong steady prices without heading for considerable increase.
With the new organization of each tradeshow being held on separate venues, Nishi Pearls has noticed the presence of many pearl jewelry suppliers’ booths in either show, but not both. As Akkelian sees it, while many suppliers used to exhibit at both shows, this year they have decided to display raw pearls at the Diamond, Gem & Pearl Show or finished jewelry at the Jewellery Show, depending on which show brought them more success in previous years.
Based on their observations from the Hong Kong shows, Nishi Pearls has noted a number of gemstone trends that are currently on the rise.
With the widespread popularity of pearls in both high-end and mainstream fashion, there is an increasing demand for larger-sized pearls due in part to their recurrent presence on catwalks. A surge in natural coloured pearls has also been observed. Pink pearls have been in demand for their romantic appeal and charm and have been regularly spotted at the pearl jewelry exhibitions during both shows, while a considerable number of buyers from Asia have expressed an interest in golden South Sea pearls. Many suppliers have also noted a special demand for high-quality pearls as well as different-sized pearls.
According to an on-site survey conducted with buyers and exhibitors during the shows, diamonds were purported to be the most desirable stone to lead the market in the coming year, while gold – including rose gold – was considered to be taking the lead in precious metals. For coloured gemstones, opal was one of the biggest contenders with a particular high demand for black opals due to their rarity.
Like all its previous years of attendance, Nishi Pearls has made the most of both the Hong Kong International Diamond, Gem & Pearl Show and the Hong Kong International Jewellery Show, having gained valuable insight and business opportunities.
