Nitro Mobile Solutions Donates “Women In STEM” Scholarship
Tampa, Fla. (PRWEB) January 13, 2015 -- Nitro Mobile Solutions, an award-winning software development company, announced today its creation and donation of “Nitro’s Women in STEM Scholarship.”
The scholarship, awarded to the Hillsborough Education Foundation, was created to foster growth in the amount of female students who study, and plan to pursue careers in, science, technology, engineering, and math. Interested applicants must: be female, be a Junior or Senior in high school, have a 3.0 or greater GPA, plan on majoring in a STEM-focused program, and, have proven financial need.
“One of our top priorities at Nitro is fostering technological growth in Tampa Bay—and one of the best ways to do that is by supporting education. We realize that there is a shortage of female students pursing STEM careers and we want to do our part in helping to change that,” said Pete Slade, CEO of Nitro Mobile Solutions.
This isn’t the first scholarship donated by Nitro Mobile Solutions. In 2014, the company established the “Nitro Mobile Solutions Scholarship in Computer Science and Engineering,” which was awarded to the University of South Florida. Around Tampa Bay, Nitro is known in part for its extensive community outreach efforts.
Funded in 1988, the Hillsborough Education Foundation describes itself as the “go-to place for Hillsborough County Public School students to apply for multiple college and career scholarships using one online application.” The Foundation directly works with Hillsborough County Public Schools’ career and guidance counselors to encourage students to apply for scholarships as early as sixth grade.
