No. 1 Social Networking App in Russia Celebrates Its Official U.S. Launch
(PRWEB) May 16, 2016 -- The anonymous group chat app Koo launched officially in the United States. Koo was ranked No. 2 overall in Russia, and No. 1 in social networking apps on the App Store. Koo boasts more than 50,000 daily users, 1,000 unique rooms, and has seen as many as 2.1 million messages sent in a single month.
The majority of social networking apps today lack the safety of anonymity, and are cumbersome to get started with. Users typically have to go through a registration process, send friend requests, and wait to be able to join into a conversation. According to Almas Toleubay, the founder of Koo, this isn’t necessary and isn’t the way the Internet used to be.
"We think that people have lost that feeling of before the Internet matured: the feeling of exploring real conversations, real freedom of speech, just real people," says Toleubay.
Koo brings back the idea of IRC, but for modern times. “Some people just want to talk to other people,” Toleubay explains, “without sharing too much about themselves.” With the Koo app, there is no registration process or friend requests. The user just chooses their username and what they want to talk about, and the app places him or her in a secure, anonymous chat room.
"We think of a party where no one knows anyone, but they are all there. They communicate, mingle, fool around, have fun, and then, when the party is over, everyone returns to their lives. And the next weekend, it all starts over again. This is what Koo is, and this is what we want it to be," Toleubay adds.
Chat rooms in Koo can be location-based or theme-based, depending on the user’s preferences. This means users can engage in meaningful, but anonymous, conversations with people from their own city or from others around the world, on a wide variety of topics.
