Norfolk, Virginia Event: A Night in Bethlehem Offers a Family Event for the Holidays Presented by Norfolk Apostolic Church

Realizing that not every family has the resources to enjoy some of the other top holiday events, this church in Norfolk sets out to provide a free annual holiday event that all local families can attend. For some in the area, it has become a holiday tradition.

Those who attend A Night in Bethlehem will step out of the cold and onto the streets of ancient Bethlehem. Each child will be handed a passport which they will show at the many shops that line the street. At each shop, the kids can enjoy a hands-on craft, and they can take home what they make. Since all of that work can make one hungry, hot chocolate and cookies are available for both children and adults. While the older children work on crafts, toddlers can play in an area that is set aside just for them.
Guests can stop by the live nativity scene complete with an entire petting zoo of live animals. To reach the nativity scene, visitors will have to pass by King Herod's throne where he and his queen greet visitors as they survey the land. All should be on the lookout for tax collectors! Upon entrance, each child will be given a coin, and formidable Roman tax collectors will be moving through the crowd trying to collect from every visitor.
Attendees can watch the children’s choir sing as they enjoy some refreshments while chatting with costumed interpreters dispersed through the crowd. These townspeople from ancient Bethlehem will be happy to answer questions, and take photos with visitors.
