North Brunswick Lacrosse to Play on Shaw Sports Turf
North Brunswick, New Jersey (PRWEB) February 26, 2015 -- North Brunswick Township High School is set to begin practice for its boy’s and girl’s lacrosse teams next week on the school’s new Shaw Sports Turf fields.
The school, which installed two new fields in September, has realized the ability to hold more events, and do so on a world-class playing surface.
“We had the same facilities for 40 years,” said Louis Emanuel, Athletic Director at the school. “The new Shaw Sports Turf fields have made all the difference in the world for us. Once we started to see the change, you can sense a growth in the sense of pride in our students. The kids really feel it and it allows us to show a greater level of commitment to the activities they participate in.”
Emanuel said the changes were immediate. With three people maintaining the grounds for the entire district, there never seemed to be enough time. He said it also allows them to better allocate funds and eliminates the worry of losing games because of weather and other factors.
The fields allowed the football and soccer teams to practice simultaneously in the fall. Now, the lacrosse teams will be able to get in practices and games on the synthetic surfaces.
“Shaw Sports Turf gives us greater versatility,” said Emanuel. “It’s also been very nice because everyone who uses the fields talk about what high-quality surfaces they are, how they perform, and how great they look.”
Pete Campisano, with USA Architects, oversaw they project and had a special interest. He’s a 1982 graduate of North Brunswick.
“It was special for me to work on the field I played on and specially because Steve Libro Field is named after my old coach,” said Campisano.
“The two major things these fields have provided are greater usability and a safer surface to play on,” said Campisano. “It has also eliminated the expenses associated with maintenance and making the previously outdated facilities ready for use.”
Campisano said they selected Shaw Sports Turf’s PowerBlade Bolt fiber for the surfaces.
“I like the profile of the system,” said Campisano. “I think it is superior to other brands. This technology lends itself to longevity. It’s a tougher surface that yields more abuse and less maintenance. Ultimately, we believe that the Bolt fiber will decrease the life cycle costs.”
The Bolt system at North Brunswick is the first to be installed in New Jersey.
Bolt is a stronger, more resilient monofilament fiber, featuring a lightning bolt shape which creates a stronger vertical axis that causes fibers to stand upright for less breakdown and increased durability. Bolt is specifically built for performance and to reflect light for a lower luster and more natural looking field.
Campisano said much of the credit for the new playing fields also goes to Applied Landscape Technologies, the general contractor.
“We had a scrimmage scheduled for a Monday,” said Campisano. “There were still some things that needed to be done and Paul (Martino) had his crew out on Saturday working to get the field done for us. That’s the kind of contractor Paul is. If I didn’t work with any other contractor that would be fine with me.”
“This entire project has been about a community coming together for the kids,” said Lee Defreitas, Territory Manager for Shaw Sports Turf. “At the end of the day, all the kids who suit up for the Raiders will have the opportunity to practice and compete on a world-class playing surface.”
Practice for both lacrosse squads begins on Friday, March 6. The first home game for the girls will be on March 17 against Peddie and the boys will open at home on March 25 against Brick Memorial.
