In 2011, country music legend Glen Campbell set out on an unprecedented tour across America. Having just been diagnosed with Alzheimer’s, Glen Campbell went public about his diagnosis, and together with his wife Kim, launched the Goodbye Tour. Originally planned for a five week run, his health – and popular demand – enabled the tour to expand to 151 sold out shows over the next year and a half. The Campbell family lobbied Congress for more funding for a cure for Alzheimer’s disease. The film documents the amazing journey of Campbell along with his family and friends attempting to navigate the wildly unpredictable nature of Campbell’s progressing disease using love, laughter, and music.
“Our organization is passionate about finding a cure for Alzheimer’s disease. Many of our properties work closely with their local Alzheimer’s Association chapters to raise funds and provide education about the disease,” stated Lee Syria, United Church Homes and Services CEO. “We hope this film is a reminder to all who view it that Alzheimer’s disease is serious and often heartbreaking for a family. It is important for all of us to be vigilant in helping find a cure.”
The movie showings are sponsored by Omnicare, a comprehensive provider of pharmacy and related services to elder care and other specialized health care settings. All three movie showings are free and open to the public. To find out more information, please call Shaylyn Ladd at 828.465.8028.
