North Carolina Artist Introduces Radical Water Sculpture Designs
Durham, North Carolina (PRWEB) June 18, 2015 -- With his customizable designs, Marc Staples creates metal sculpture that melds the beauty and randomness of nature with contemporary design. These new fountains invoke the effect of a new life form living in a great pond; its surface patterns and reflections animated by water, light and air. They fully represent Marc's signature gestural approach, through flowing lines and shapes executed in broad strokes. Ideas are often not sketched in advance, but created spontaneously during an inspired working state. Marc's artistic vision is, stated simply, to alter the environment. Calling himself a terraformer, he is in constant pursuit of transforming the landscape… creating 360 degree environments of wonder and beauty.
Employing water as a sculptural material is a passion for Marc. His use of water in his sculptures is as varied and flexible as the element itself, and through his work one can only wonder at the wide range of expressive possibilities this unruly material presents. Abstract sculpture designs, combined with the myriad of ways to give shape, form, color, and light to water, bring life and power to basic materials such as stainless steel, aluminum and copper.
With his commission work Marc tailors his designs and their scale to match the immediate environment. These environments may be as many and varied as tranquil, private gardens, city centers, woodland glades, exhibitions, memorial fountains, open-air sculpture parks, embassy courtyards, facades of buildings, airport lounges or entrances to hospitals.
A third-generation artist from a family of painters, sculptors, fabric designers, and actors, Marc's artwork primarily developed through personal experimentation and instinct. Early on, he was mentored by two masters of their respective crafts. Beginning in the 1970's Marc was under the instruction of his uncle Donald McAdoo, an acclaimed painter of images from the Outer Banks of North Carolina. Thanks to McAdoo, Marc developed skills in watercolor and oil painting, plus learned the basics of the business and language of the art world. Then in 2001, he came under the mentorship of world-renowned sculptor Joseph Kinnebrew.
