North Texas-Based ICON Construction to Supply Temporary School House After Nebraska Tornados
McKinney, Texas (PRWEB) July 29, 2014 -- The town of Wisner, Nebraska is slowly putting the pieces back together after a very rare breed of twin tornadoes ransacked the small town last month. Several farms and homes were completely leveled along with Pilger Middle school, the town’s only junior high facility.
With the start of a school year a mere three weeks away, the Wisner Pilger School District flew into action. They needed to find a replacement in a matter of days to avoid a delay of the new school year which could have postponed classes until the end of September, if not later.
To avoid this, ICON Construction, a general contractor specializing in the design and build of modular, permanent modular and modular re-locatable buildings, has supplied 3 buildings which will house 5th and 6th graders as well as special needs, Arts, and Band classes until the new, permanent school can be rebuilt.
From the moment that Icon Construction brought the new buildings onsite, they have been greeted with an overabundance of help, gratitude, and generosity from every facet of the community. From the police department who have been creating road blocks for safe building entry, to Bodwell Construction, who have been on site aiding in every way they can, the community has come together to ensure that their children’s education will not be burdened by mother nature’s wrath.

It is a very humbling experience to see the destruction these powerful tornados can leave in their wake. We have come across so many dedicated individuals working hard to rebuild their town and community. We feel extremely fortunate that we are able to help in their relief efforts."
Immediately after receiving the request for classrooms for the middle school, we dropped everything to see what we could do to provide the space as quickly as possible. We knew this would be a challenge of time, more so than any other modular project. We were confident we could meet the demanding time frame, but the end result surpassed even our own high expectations. The pride and sense of urgency between our team members, both in the office and on the line at the plant, was palpable. We were able to deliver 3 buildings with 6 classrooms and restrooms to the job site within a few short weeks.
The temporary doublewide Icon structures were the perfect solution given their short turn around. All three were built, delivered, and fully functional within 10 days.
For now, the town will continue using its existing High School facility, which was untouched by the storms, to temporarily support all remaining students and elective courses. The local high school will also serve as an emergency shelter. There, survivors will have access to clean water, food, showers and cots to sleep on.
