Dallas, TX (PRWEB) July 30, 2014 -- After a rocky start to the busy home buying season, home sales in North Texas have finally taken off much to the delight of local home owners and real estate agents. Prudential Texas Properties reports the amount of home sales in June throughout North Texas increased to a yearly high thus far for 2014.
A recent report by the Dallas Morning News cited data from the Real Estate Center at Texas A&M University and the North Texas Real Estate Information Systems, revealing that home sales in the North Texas region were up by 7 percent in June to a grand total of 9,481 homes sold. This is the biggest year-over-year gain that the North Texas region has seen thus far in 2014 and the strongest showing of home sales in June recorded in more than a decade.
Despite the strong activity in June, home sales for the first half of 2014 are still down by 1 percent from the first six months of 2013. Local market watchers are hopeful that this is finally the pickup in activity that the region has needed to see a stronger housing market.
“It has been a quiet year for home sales so far,” says DD Flynn, VP of Marketing at Prudential Texas Properties. “But it seems the market is finally keen on realizing its potential. With such a robust economy, this is a real estate market that is destined for great things.”
With such a strong pickup in home sales, the North Texas housing market is finally showing signs of even growth across the board. Previously, home prices had been gaining at rates that were considered unsustainable based on the lagging home sales for the region.
Home sales prices continue to appreciate, even as sales pick up. In June, median sales prices in North Texas increased 10 percent from a year ago to $199,900, a record for the region.
