In 2010, the Under Secretary of Defense mandated that all DoD components and companies participating in the National Industrial Security Program (NISP) transition to electronic fingerprinting by the end of 2013. This mandate supports the Intelligence Reform and Terrorism Prevention Act of 2004 as well as the Homeland Security Presidential Directive-12. All contractors cleared under NISP are required to comply.
In 2012, IsI opened the first Digital Fingerprinting Station in Herndon, Virginia. This location serves companies that are required to electronically submit fingerprints to the Office of Personnel Management under the Secure Web Fingerprint Transmission Program (SWFT).
