Northwest Dance Studio Brings Unconventional Dance Performance 'Christmas Re:Creation' to the Stage in December 2014, Starring Dancer from Season 6 of SYTYCD
Orlando, FL (PRWEB) November 23, 2014 -- In December 2014, Northwest Dance Studio is bringing the back-story of Christmas to young and old with Christmas Re:Creation – a unique and inspiring dance production of human shadow forms that come together in a moving illustration of the 7 days of creation and beyond. Re:Creation features original choreography with contemporary dance styles, popular and original music, and large screen backdrops.
An exciting development to this year’s show is the involvement of dance professional and celebrity Peter Sabasino of So You Think You Can Dance, Season 6 who has been attending Dance Company rehearsals and will be performing a key role in the show. His girlfriend, Elysha Pereira, who is also a seasoned dance professional and choreographer, is working with Studio Director Sarah Swindell on the show’s choreography.
“Peter Sabasino brings an excitement for dance and amazing insight on how the body works while dancing. Most importantly, he loves what he does and has a passion for excellence,” says Sarah. “Peter is truly bringing our Dance Company to the next level—we have added several new dance styles and surprise elements to the performance as a result.”
“I first began working with Sarah and the Dance Studio this past summer,” says Peter, “and I fell in love with her amazing students—they are so eager to learn and everyone is so genuinely nice.”
Northwest Dance Studio is a community dance studio located on Clarcona-Ocoee Road in Orlando that teaches a myriad of dance styles including aerial silks and lyra hoops, ballet, contemporary, creative movement, hip-hop, jazz, salsa, tap and more. Its Christmas Re:Creation original dance performance will take the audience on a captivating journey back in time to the very beginning of human existence, exploring the very first love story.
The production will showcase Northwest Dance Company and student performers from as young as 3 years of age in a dizzying combination of dance styles including contemporary, hip hop, lyrical, jazz and tap dance--mostly behind 2 large, illuminated screens. Occasionally, the dancers will appear in a colorful display during pivotal encounters. Featuring both popular and original music written and recorded at Northwest’s private recording studio, the performance follows Adam and Eve’s journey from the beginning of time, through betrayal of trust and broken relationships, to the very first Christmas when a glimmer of hope appears.
Performed by Northwest Dance Studio students and Company members, many who are children and teens from the surrounding Pine Hills community, Re:Creation first played to an audience of more than 1,500 at Northwest Church during three December 2012 performances. This year with the inclusion of Peter Sabasino and Elysha Pereira, the performance will reveal new dance styles and surprise elements.
Christmas Re:Creation will be performed at Northwest Church Auditorium, 5495 Clarcona-Ocoee Rd, Orlando, FL 32810 in December 2014. Performances are free to the public at these times:

About Northwest Dance Studio
Northwest Dance Studio is a not-for-profit organization founded in 2005 in Orlando, Florida with the adjoining Northwest Church donating the space and financial support to get the studio off the ground. Founder and director Sarah Swindell brings her more than 15 years of professional dance experience to give the studio’s students, mostly children and teens, the opportunity to learn multiple forms of dance and perform on a stage – an opportunity many would otherwise miss during childhood.
Beyond teaching technique in the realms of contemporary, ballet, hip hop, jazz, tap and aerial dance, the studio’s focus is on instilling confidence, integrity and positive self-image in its students that they can use in everyday life to achieve their dreams. Northwest Dance Studio also strives to create a safe environment for each dancer, whose ages range from 3 – 30+ years, providing dance and performance art in the underserved Pine Hills area of Orlando.
A key component of the studio’s mission is to not turn away any student -- even those who are not able to afford the price of classes are put on a scholarship program where they can provide support to the studio through helping tasks in exchange for their classes. In addition, in comparison to other dance studios in the region, classes are always offered at low rates with each class costing $12. Students are never penalized for missing a class and they are able to use every class purchased at any time.
“Over the years, our little unassuming facility has offered hundreds of children and adults the opportunity to dance, grow and express themselves,” said Studio Director Sarah Swindell. “We have seen children with ADHD and behavior problems improve, and life changing growth in our students of all ages. It’s not just about dance; it is about helping our students find a positive self image to help them grow.”
Beyond Christmas Re:Creation, Northwest Dance Studio produces a series of seasonal dance performances, event performances for The Lovely Project, and a Diary Series, where dancers can utilize artistic movement and expression to share and recover from traumatic moments in their lives. All students have the opportunity to audition for the studio’s Dance Company and now, its new Jr. Dance Company.
