Not a typical health fair: Carolina Soul Festival features belly dancing, fitness demos, kirtans, & health practitioners
Calabash, North Carolina (PRWEB) August 08, 2016 -- The Carolina Soul Festival on September 10 is not your typical health fair. The festival’s mission is certainly to encourage a culture of wellness and respect for the earth in the community through an awareness of prevention, nutrition, fitness, relaxation, art, music, and positive mental attitudes. But the Carolina Soul Festival aims to provide new, out-of-the box experiences for attendees. The event will take place at 9480 Ocean Highway West beside of the South Brunswick Islands Center, the Brunswick Community College satellite location.
“We really want to promote not only exercise, but also movement, music, and art as a path to prevention, healing, and happiness,” says Nancy Smith, a festival coordinator. “We want to incorporate all facets of physical and emotional wellness, not to mention having fun doing it.”
This is the inaugural year for the Carolina Soul Festival and will feature a day of engagement, education, entertainment, and empowerment to help families and individuals take actions and makes choices to become their healthiest and happiest selves. Attendees can connect with local traditional and alternative health care providers, nutrition experts, massage therapists, fitness trainers, insurance specialists, and elder care representatives, to name a few. Festival sponsors include Novant Health, Hearing by Design, Shallotte Insurance, Natures’ Pathway to Wellness, Global DJ Entertainment, Tradition Surfboards, Sacred Willow Spa, and Farm Bureau Insurance.
Not just a health and wellness fair, this event has all the bohemian spirit of an art and music festival intertwined with a carnival to nourish the soul, while inspiring the mind and body as well. In addition to booths offering health and wellness information and screenings, there will be vendors selling distinctive, transformative products and gifts like skin care, body treatments, jewelry, pottery, and textiles. There will be a kid’s zone with a full-day of scheduled dance, yoga, and fitness demos, circus arts, as well as face painting and crafts. A range of eclectic, healthy, and delicious food and beverage vendors will be on hand. Check Six Brewery from Southport will be serving up their local craft beer.
Every few minutes, performers from a wide range of disciplines will take the stage to demonstrate dance, fitness, and belly dancing, and encourage audience participation. The musical lineup begins with a Kirtan, a group singing experience involving ancient Sanskrit chants. From there, enjoy the Americana sounds of The Christine Martinez Band from Southport, a Stevie-Ray Vaughn tribute by the Justin Cody Fox Trio of Wilmington, and closing out the evening with a Reggae party, is Wilmington’s Selah Dubb.
The Carolina Soul Festival is committed to giving back to the local community. In addition to the proceeds of the festival going to support Community Movement Alliance, Inc. a non-profit organization in Brunswick County that encourages the voices, minds, and futures of South Brunswick County's marginalized youth and their families through movement-based education in the disciplines of dance, martial arts, and the practice of yoga, the festival will also host several other non-profit organizations throughout the area to help bring awareness to a wide range of causes.
“We encourage folks to come gather information, learn new things, and of course, dance and play,” says Nancy. “Above all, we want everyone’s experience at the Carolina Soul Festival to empower them to transform their lives by taking control of their own well-being.”
