Notaviva Vineyards Launches Interactive Tasting Room Application
Purcellville, Virginia (PRWEB) May 06, 2015 -- Notaviva Vineyards, the pioneers of pairing wine with music, is pleased to announce the launch of Notaviva Interactive. This engaging multimedia experience provides visitors a unique opportunity to evaluate a flight of wines, and how well each pairs with various musical selections. The user is guided through a series of video instructions and multimedia exercises, where playlists are presented to accompany each blind wine tasting. The user rates their compatibility on touchscreen devices, and the resulting data set is stored in a cloud-based reporting system.
“This is a revolutionary step forward in winery tasting room experiences,” said Stephen Mackey, CEO and Wine Composer at Notaviva. “Since our launch in 2008 we have been conducting these kinds of wine and music pairing experiences in a live setting for large groups. As owners of a creative agency focused on mobile, web and video technologies, developing this interactive capability for phones and tablets was a natural evolution. Loudoun County’s wine region is adjacent to data center alley and the vibrant Dulles Technology Corridor; our customers embrace emerging technologies as a way of life.”
The pairing of wine and music is fundamentally grounded in a field of cognitive neuroscience known as cross modal sensory perception. Human beings' ability to taste, smell and enjoy wine is directly impacted by the various forms of stimuli contributed from other senses. It has been shown in university research that various tonalities of music are actually perceived to taste differently. For example, the timbre of brass instruments has been shown to accentuate the acidity in wines, while the timbre of woodwinds makes various tannins more pronounced.
“From a winemaking and marketing perspective, the data sets collected from the application over time will provide valuable insight to guide our production runs and blending techniques,” said Shannon Mackey, CEO of Mesh Omnimedia and co-owner of Notaviva. “For the first time, we will have actionable data illustrating how different demographic groups are impacted by various auditory stimuli. Soon we will be able to provide recommendations to restaurants and other wine retailers, where they indicate which wine styles they are pouring to whom, and we can tell them the most appropriate music to play.”
Notaviva Interactive is available in the tasting room on Sundays during the pilot program throughout May 2015, then during normal business hours beginning in June.
About Notaviva Vineyards
Notaviva Vineyards is the world’s only winery that pairs wine with music. Notaviva® is the intrinsic effect of music upon human emotion, or put simply, the feeling you get when you hear your favorite song. Each wine is paired with a musical genre, which endeavors to complement the style and soul of the wine.
