Novation Settlement Solutions Spokesman Hector Picard Featured in National Coverage of Ironman World Championship
West Palm Beach, FL (PRWEB) December 15, 2016 -- The remarkable story of Hector Picard – a double arm amputee and adaptive triathlete sponsored by Novation Settlement Solutions – was featured in NBC’s national coverage of the 2016 Ironman World Championship on Saturday, December 10. Picard made history as the first dual arm amputee in history to complete the grueling 140+ mile triathlon, known as one of the most difficult athletic competitions in existence.
Saturday’s broadcast showcased the personal journeys of several world-class athletes, including Picard, during the October race in Kona, Hawaii and the unique paths that led them to this crowning achievement. Picard, who was attempting the race for the second time after overheating last year, speaks about what the Ironman means to him at 9:37 in the special program. He is also featured in the emotional closing montage of featured racers coming down the finisher’s chute, completing the race with just 12 minutes to spare.
However, Picard was not just competing for his own personal accomplishment, but for a cause far greater than himself. His Kona Ironman race, along with 25+ other triathlons this year, was dedicated to inspiring and raising funds for some of the most medically fragile children in the nation at his hometown Broward Children’s Center. Picard wore a sleeve with names of all the center’s children for the entire, nearly 17-hour competition, and dedicated his medal to the them at a ceremony following the race.
“It was such an incredible feeling to become the first double arm amputee Ironman World Champion, and so exciting to relive it all again – on national TV!” said Picard. “I hope that this coverage of my story will bring attention to the children in need at Broward Children’s Center and that people will find it in their heart to give to this deserving organization, especially now around the holidays.
“Completing the Kona Ironman was a big personal goal and very proud moment for me, so I am extremely grateful to those who helped make this possible – especially my sponsor Novation Settlement Solutions. Not only do they fund, promote and genuinely support my racing, but they were the ones who launched my second chance at life which has led to all these incredible successes.”
Novation Settlement Solutions President John Marsano added: “We are so humbled to have worked with Hector and been able to set him on the path to living his dreams. We keep that in mind every time we are on the phone with clients, because Hector perfectly embodies why we do what we do – Novation gives people second chances to start new and better lives. All of us at Novation are so proud to sponsor Hector. We couldn’t ask for a better spokesman, and look forward to supporting his ongoing success.”
