Washington, District of Columbia (PRWEB) September 21, 2016 -- The International Consortium of Minority Cybersecurity Professionals (ICMCP) today announced that Sandra Stanar-Johnson, Equal Employment Opportunity and Diversity Office Director for NSA, will keynote its upcoming cybersecurity diversity summit, co-hosted by IBM.
The event will be held October 4th during National Cybersecurity Awareness Month. It will bring together thought-leaders from academia and the cybersecurity industry to deliberate on innovative approaches to overcome the diversity gap in cybersecurity.
Before her current role at the NSA, Stanar-Johnson served as the NSA/CSS Representative to the Department of Homeland Security and was recognized for her accomplishments in this position with a Presidential Rank Award in March 2012. She was the first NSA representative to be charged with bringing the Cyber mission into mainstream support to DHS along with Counterterrorism, Counter-narcotics and Organized Crime, Southwest Border and Maritime protection, and support to Law Enforcement.
“We are thrilled that someone of Sandra’s caliber is keynoting the upcoming New York Summit. Her insights and experience will provide an invaluable perspective in the discussions,” said Devon Bryan, ICMCP President and Co-founder. “Cyber threats are exploding, yet there is a huge deficit in the number of professionals needed to combat these threats. Sandra’s experience and track record in helping to bring under-utilized talent, in particular underrepresented classes, into the cybersecurity workforce and in the defense of our Nation makes her an excellent choice.”
During the half-day IBM-hosted and sponsored New York City event, thought leaders will hold a series of expert panel and audience-driven discussions, and examine ways to further the inclusion of women and underrepresented minorities in cybersecurity.
The New York City Summit will be followed by another ICMCP West Coast Summit on October 6, which will bring together technology and security leaders in Silicon Valley. Both events build on the successes of the inaugural ICMCP National Conference held in Washington DC in March and the earlier DC Town Hall meeting hosted by Congresswoman Sheila Jackson-Lee.
The NYC event, which is free, is aimed at Chief Information Security officers (CISOs), security professionals, and educators, and will be held at IBM’s office at 590 Madison Avenue, New York City, from 12:00 pm – 6:00 pm EST, October 4.
