NTAF Meets Face to Face to Vote on New Technical Standards for Reporting and APIs
Richardson, TEXAS (PRWEB) August 07, 2015 -- Technical experts from the Network Test Automation Forum (NTAF), an organization of industry-leading communications and networking companies that develops interoperability standards in the test community, are coming together in Richardson, Texas, on Aug. 4 and 5, 2015, for their fifth annual face-to-face meetings, and to vote on emerging standards. Two of NTAF’s working groups, the Reporting Working Group, and the API Working Group, have recently completed new specifications, both of which are currently being reviewed by NTAF’s Technical Committee.
The Reporting Working Group has defined a standard for reports, which are generated by test equipment at the end of a test. Having a standard for reports will provide a clearer picture to customers evaluating network equipment, and allow them to make more of an “apples-to-apples” comparison. The specification goes beyond simply providing the end result of a test, and also includes the background information leading up to the test result, such as the test steps, parameters, and log information. The reporting specification builds on top of the topology specification, which NTAF released last year.
In parallel, the API Working Group has produced its first standard, which defines specific commands for next-generation high-level APIs. The API specification builds on top of the automation framework specification, which NTAF also released last year. High-level APIs dramatically improve the ease of use of native APIs, and ultimately accelerate automation of test tools from vendors such as Spirent Communications.
Both specifications are available from NTAF at no charge.
