NuCurrent Named a Finalist for Two 2015 ITA CityLIGHTS Awards
Chicago (PRWEB) August 12, 2015 -- NuCurrent, a leader in wireless power antenna technology, announces that the Illinois Technology Association (ITA) has named NuCurrent a finalist for two 2015 ITA CityLIGHTS Awards. NuCurrent was named a 2015 ITA CityLIGHTS Trailblazing Award Finalist and co-founder and CTO Dr. Vinit Singh was named a finalist for the 2015 ITA CityLIGHTS Technologist of the Year Award. Winners for each of the eight ITA CityLIGHTS categories will be announced at a gala event on September 17 at Morgan Manufacturing in Chicago.
Now in its 16th year, the ITA CityLIGHTS program honors companies and individuals whose innovation and success drive growth in the technology industry and in Illinois. The Trailblazing Award is presented to a company that have developed and/or introduced an ingenious, non-traditional and innovative way of doing business or creating culture that has produced significant value and growth for the company. The Technologist of the Year Award is presented to the individual whose talent has championed true technology innovation, either through new applications of existing technology or the development of technology to achieve a truly unique product or service.
All finalists are selected by a panel of accomplished judges representing the Who’s Who in Illinois technology. The public can contribute to the selection of this year’s winners by voting from August 10-28 at itacitylights.com. Winners will be determined by composite score (50 percent judges; 50 percent community voting) in all categories except the CityLIGHTS Award, which is determined solely by the ITA Board of Directors.
“Our CityLIGHTS Awards are all about showcasing great companies and individuals doing extraordinary things,” said Fred Hoch, CEO, ITA. “Having NuCurrent and Dr. Vinit Singh in this year’s finalists’ pool proves just that.”
“We are honored and humbled to be recognized by the ITA as one of the top innovators driving growth in the technology industry and in Illinois,” said Singh. “We believe this is another validation of our high-efficiency antennas and the void we fill in the marketplace for wireless power capabilities in accessories, smartphones, cars, etc. without sacrificing size, performance or charge times.”
As CTO of NuCurrent, Dr. Singh guides the company’s technology focus, IP leadership efforts, and product development roadmap. He helped the company develop a portfolio of 44 patents pending across 6 international jurisdictions, with 17 patents granted in the U.S. After being awarded 14 patents in 2014, NuCurrent was named No. 1 on 2015 Crain’s Chicago Business Eureka Index with the highest per-capita patent output of any Chicago-area company. The company was also listed in the top 10 percent overall in patent quality score, which considers the uniqueness of the invention covered by a patent and other important factors. Singh received his PhD in electrical engineering from North Carolina State University. While attending the university, he developed wireless telemetry systems for the world’s first Artificial Retina Implant, of which was recognized as a 2009 R&D 100 award winner.
As the wireless power technology space continues to explode with consumers seeking freedom from being tied to a cord, electronic device OEMs and integrators continue to turn to NuCurrent to help build in efficient wireless power capabilities into accessories, smartphones, cars and the places we visit every day like the coffee shop and office. As proof, the company was selected for the first commercially available and FCC-approved Alliance for Wireless Power (A4WP) certified products, the Wireless Power Consortium's standard antenna for in-car charging (i.e. charging a mobile phone by placing it on the center armrest of a car) and the reference antenna for the systems of other wireless power industry leaders including Broadcom and Efficient Power Conversion Corp.; and validated by industry leaders such as Texas Instruments, Motorola and NXP. NuCurrent also announced a $3.48 million Series A round of funding and a strategic partnership and investment from Molex, helping to expand the global manufacturer of electronic solutions’ wireless power capabilities.
