Number of GranuFlo Lawsuits Increases, Baron and Budd Reports
DALLAS (PRWEB) April 17, 2014 -- National law firm Baron & Budd reports that the number of lawsuits against the manufacturer of GranuFlo continues to increase. The lawsuits stem from patients who suffered adverse health effects after undergoing dialysis treatment where the product was used. GranuFlo, as well as NaturaLyte, are used in dialysis, which treats severe kidney conditions. The U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) announced a recall of the products on March 29, 2012. The FDA warned that use of these dialysates during dialysis could increase the level of bicarbonate in patients, which can lead to a variety of health issues, including cardiac arrhythmia. The FDA issued a Class I recall regarding GranuFlo and NaturaLyte; Class I recalls are issued when there is a likelihood that use of a product can lead to either serious health problems or death. The New York Times reported on June 14, 2012 that Fresenius Medical Care, the manufacturer of GranuFlo, knew about these potential side effects yet did not warn users of the dangers (http://www.nytimes.com/2012/06/15/health/fda-investigates-fresenius-for-failure-to-warn-of-risk.html?_r=0). More than 5,800 lawsuits nationwide have been filed against Fresenius, including nearly 1500 which are part of the multidistrict litigation.
