Nurses Advocate for Zadroga Act Reauthorization, Parker Waichman LLP Comments
Port Washington, New York (PRWEB) June 26, 2015 -- Parker Waichman LLP, a national law firm that has spent many years fighting to ensure that the heroes of 9/11 terrorist attacks are never forgotten, comments on a recent video released by the Citizens for the Extension of the James Zadroga Act. In the June 10, 2015 video, nurses emphasize the need to reauthorize the Zadroga Act. The nurses describe the difficult and costly challenges of 9/11-related illnesses, and urge Washington to renew the Zadroga Act, which provides medical care and compensation to responders and survivors who became ill due to the attacks. Meg McCormick, Nurse Case Manager/Registered Nurse World Trade Center (WTC) Health Program said, “A lot of these members are young members, people with lymphoma at 30 or 40, even prostate cancers at 30 and 40; it’s a young population we’re taking care of."
According to Parker Waichman, many responders and survivors suffering from 9/11-related diseases and disorders rely on the Zadroga Act's two programs, the WTC Health Program and the September 11th Victim Compensation Fund (VCF). “A number of responders became ill due to toxic dust exposure at Ground Zero,” said Matthew J. McCauley, Senior Litigation Counsel at Parker Waichman. “This video highlights how important the Zadroga Act is for these individuals.”
Parker Waichman has actively worked toward the 2010 passage of the Zadroga Act, including taking part in grass roots and lobbying efforts and trips to the nation’s capital led by Mr. McCauley, often, along with the firm’s clients. Mr. McCauley and Parker Waichman continue to support the Zadroga Act and continue to support efforts to extend the Act’s timeline and its scope.
Parker Waichman comments that extending the Zadroga Act would be vital for a number of responders and survivors whose illnesses are not yet apparent. “Some 9/11-related conditions may take years to manifest,” said Gary Falkowitz, Managing Attorney at Parker Waichman. “Extending these benefits may provide crucial medical care and compensation to these individuals and their families.”
Parker Waichman, which worked, and continues to fight, alongside Ground Zero first responders, survivors, and their advocates, to help ensure passage of the Zadroga Act and its amendments, vows to continue its efforts to safeguard these heroes and ensure that they receive all of the Zadroga Act compensation they deserve. If you or a loved one are eligible for compensation under the Zadroga Act, and would like assistance with your claim, or if you or a loved one have been injured as a result of toxic exposure, please visit Parker Waichman's website or call 1-800-LAW-INFO (1-800-529-4636).
