Nutrition and Recovery: The Lakehouse Recovery Center Develops Nutritional Therapy for Clients & Staff
There are studies dedicated to nutritional therapy, and both Program Director/Counselor Brian Wurschum and Chef/Counselor Judith Kastle will be certified in Addiction & Nutrition. Kastle says, “It’s about attraction rather than promotion in healthy eating habits as well as in recovery. Hence why we cook with both the staff and clients in mind. Nutrition is very important in the detox stage. What we do in our kitchen and on our table rebuilds the brain, liver, kidneys, and spirit. The Lakehouse is continuously going in a direction of optimal health, and the mind and body connection begins in the kitchen. We are always teaching the residents healthy habits to take with them.”
About The Lakehouse
The Lakehouse Recovery Center first opened its doors as a sober living six years ago, and is now a licensed facility for drug and alcohol rehabilitation and detox. The Lakehouse now has a compassionate and professional staff, and offers many various therapies such as yoga, surf and equine therapies, as well as traditional 12-step meetings. Nestled on Lake Sherwood, it offers a structured yet nurturing environment that fosters the treatment and recovery process.
About Nutritional Therapy
Substance and alcohol abuse harms the body as the drugs and alcohol themselves harm the body and cause negative lifestyle habits such as poor diet and irregular eating. Recovery affects the body in other ways, including organ function, metabolism, and mental well-being. Proper nutrition may help the healing process, providing the body with the energy it needs for repair. Nutritional support during the treatment and recovery process helps maintain healthy organs and fight off infections.
