NxGn Data Awarded a Phase 1 SBIR Grant from the NSF for Storage Analytics
Irvine, CA (PRWEB) December 22, 2015 -- NxGn Data, Inc., a storage pioneer creating intelligent SSDs for the data center, announces that it has been awarded a Small Business Innovation Research (SBIR) Phase 1 grant from the National Science Foundation (NSF). This grant will support ongoing research and development of NxGn Data's In-Situ Processing for SSD products. With a key goal of substantially improving overall data processing performance and energy efficiency in the data center, NxGn's In-Situ processing will enable the next generation computational capabilities that will fuel future data analytics innovation.

In-Situ processing and the idea of computational storage will mean substantial benefits in the area of data analytics. By giving each storage node the ability to process data under the explicit control of the user’s application, significant power and performance advantages can be realized. When a computational request is initiated, only the computational request and the resulting data need transfer over the storage interface, greatly reducing the interface traffic and significantly reducing the required power. This is critical with Big Data applications, where the datasets are large and transferring data over the interface can be time consuming and power intensive. The key element needed to make In-Situ processing a success is a simple but robust environment, which the NSF SBIR grant will help NxGn Data realize.
