NYC Security Camera Company, Total Security, Reveals Why Surveillance Cameras Are a Necessity in Every NYC School
Elmont, New York (PRWEB) March 19, 2014 -- There has been great debate over whether there should be security cameras installed in all New York City schools. After various school shooting incidents have taken place across the United States, having an advanced security system in schools is no longer optional; it is a necessity, according to Total Security Integrated Systems in Elmont, NY.
"Most parents feel more comfortable sending their children to a school that has up-to-date security cameras," according to Matt DiMicco, owner of Total Security. "It gives parents peace of mind that their children are safe."
Recently, Total Security, the leading Security Camera System Installations company in New York, finished installing security cameras at two locations for Our Lady Catholic Academy in New York City.
The “A” rated (by the BBB) security camera company is passionate about the safety of children and has made school security a major focus in recent years.
According to Mr. DiMicco, some of the numbers are staggering. Only 51% of primary schools, 73% of middle schools, and 84% of high schools actually used surveillance to monitor security, in 2013. “Anything lower than 100% security coverage is putting children at risk. Especially concerning is the 51% rate seen in primary schools. We can’t take anything granted when we are talking about our children’s lives. At Total Security, we are doing everything possible to work with local systems to get as close to 100% of schools secure, both in the public and private sectors.”
"Unfortunately, people hear about the awful shooting incidents in schools, on the news, and they assume that it will never happen to them. But it can. We need to do everything we can to prevent security breaches and improve monitoring," added Mr. DiMicco.
It's been reported that nearly 65% of schools in the U.S. allow non-school members to walk into schools unannounced. That's because only 35% of schools require students and faculty to have identification.
"In one out of every five schools, intruders can usually just walk right in and do whatever they please," says, Mr. DiMicco. "This has got to change."
He strongly believes there is no reason why all New York City Schools should not have up-to-date school security systems, such as card access system, intercom systems and surveillance cameras installed.
Some schools argue that they have a form of security, such as security guards. However, that form of security is not enough to prevent crimes in schools. As far as cost is concerned, Mr. DiMicco also believes that schools cannot afford not to invest in a top-notch security system.
"Children deserve to learn in a safe environment that's well protected. Installing security cameras is an important step in providing improved protection."
