NYCVP Walking Tour Celebrates Fourteen Year Anniversary
New York, NY (PRWEB) August 24, 2015 -- “Sending thousands of visitors to New York City…one at a time!” That’s New York City Vacation Packages’ (NYCVP) motto, and this year marks the fourteenth year in which NYCVP has added a little something extra to any vacation—a truly historic walking tour of Lower Manhattan.
“After September 11, New York was devastated, but so was the rest of the country. People were calling us, wanting to see Ground Zero for themselves, wanting to grieve and pay their respects with everyone else. There was constant TV coverage and everyone could see it, but they wanted to experience it, so we created a guided walking tour for them,” said Barry Tenenbaum, President of NYCVP.
The Lower Manhattan Walking Tour (now known as the WTC Memorial Tour) was first tested shortly after the tragedy of September 11 with a Chamber of Commerce group from Pennsylvania. The tour, which for several years was offered for free, was meant to be a fully comprehensive look at New York City, so it started in Midtown and a guide escorted visitors down to Lower Manhattan via subway to the Ground Zero site. The tour is always constantly adapting as Lower Manhattan has been rebuilt and revitalized in the years since, but the main components still remain. Today, visitors still start in Midtown, experience a subway ride to Lower Manhattan, and pay their respects at the 9/11 Memorial, but the tour also includes stops at the 9/11 Firefighters Memorial Wall, Wall Street, and the Financial District.
Being its fourteenth year running, the WTC Memorial Tour is the longest continuously operating walking tour of the Lower Manhattan area.
NYCVP also operates several other walking tours:
- The Statue of Liberty, Ellis Island Express Tour is the only tour to Lady Liberty departing from a convenient Midtown Manhattan location to Battery Park, where guests will board the Liberty Island ferry with an exclusive ticket to the reserved ferry security line—allowing for no waiting. Tour participants will be among the very few to be allowed direct entry into the famous State of Liberty with a reserved Monument Access Pass (which allows access to the pedestal portion of Lady Liberty). The guided portion of the tour ends at the statue, but visitors are also welcome to continue to Ellis Island and experience what millions of immigrants did a century ago or look up their family heritage.
- The Freedom Comprehensive Tour is an expanded walking tour of Lower Manhattan including a visit to the 9/11 Memorial, Wall Street, Federal Hall National Monument, Trinity Church, the Financial District and more, and a visit to the Statue of Liberty including entry inside the famed Statue.
All NYCVP walking tours are guided by knowledgeable, licensed NYC professional tour guides and have won numerous awards—including Trip Advisor’s Certificate of Excellence a number of years in a row. NYCVP also offers many other unique walking tours—such as food tours, a pub crawl, photo tours, and private tours. A visit to the National 9/11 Memorial Museum or the new One World Observatory can also be added on to any vacation package to complete the experience of Lower Manhattan.
