Oakland Zoo’s Celebrates Asian-Inspired “Moon Festival” on September 17!
Oakland, CA (PRWEB) September 13, 2016 -- From 10:00am – 3:00pm on Saturday, September 17, 2016, family-friendly activities will take place throughout Oakland Zoo to commemorate the customs of the Moon Festival with live music, lion dance performances, martial arts demonstrations, face-painting, enrichment and craft-making stations, animal encounters and a barbecue hosted by Kinder’s BBQ.
Celebrated as the mid-autumn festival in many Asian cultures, the day centers on family gatherings, paper lantern-making, and the eating of mooncakes – the special food of the festival, of which a variety of flavors will be available for purchase in the Zoo’s Adventure Landing area. Paper lantern-making stations will be in Flamingo Plaza, at the Zoo’s Main Entrance.
The Moon Festival at Oakland Zoo is sponsored by Taiwan Tourism, the Heart of Asia. Visit the Taiwan Tourism Bureau booth at the Asian Sun bear exhibit to learn more about Taiwan and the traditions of the Moon Festival. Enrichment-making stations will also be set up at the exhibit for kids to make cool treats for the Sun bears.
In addition, the Entercom San Francisco cluster of radio stations including 96.5 KOIT, 95.7 The GAME, Q102.1, 98.5 KFOX and 102.9 KBLX will activate at the event providing added elements of entertainment and family fun. The radio stations activities include karaoke, various tailgating games, photo opportunities and more.
Entertainment aside, this day-long event is an opportunity for families to connect with nature and their favorite animals. Action for Wildlife is at the heart of Oakland Zoo’s conservation efforts, and Animals Asia, zoo guests how they can take action to help wildlife in Asia.
All ages are welcome for a day of animal experiences and Asian-inspired fun. The 2016 Moon Festival event at Oakland Zoo is included with regular Zoo admission ($13.75 for children/seniors; $17.75 for adults; parking $9.00).
