Teddy Bear Tea is a new way to experience Oakland Zoo with children. Children (along with an adult) are encouraged to bring their favorite stuffed animal to enjoy a morning of activities, play, and learning about bears. Make gifts for the sun bears and watch them enjoy treats prepared by tea goers. Children will also receive a special Teddy Bear treat bag to take home. Visit oaklandzoo.org for details. Oakland Zoo’s Conservation Speaker Series Presents: Saving the Mountain Yellow Legged Frog
Wednesday, February 5: 6:30pm – 9:00pm
Please join Oakland Zoo and Vance T. Vredenburg, Ph.D. The Mountain Yellow-Legged Frog, a local species found in the high elevations of the Sierra Nevada, is not excluded from the global amphibian crisis; only several thousand are thought to remain in the wild. Due to Dr. Vredenburg’s research and conservation work into the nature of the chytrid fungus, which is decimating amphibian populations worldwide, there is now hope for the Mountain Yellow-Legged Frog. Find out what Dr. Vredenburg has learned about these frogs and how Oakland Zoo is helping to save this species. Location: Oakland Zoo’s Marian Zimmer Auditorium. ZooKids: Carnivores, Herbivores, & Me

ZooKids classes are a great way for children age 4-5 to have a fun and educational adventure at Oakland Zoo. Program Description: What do kids like for dinner? What do animals like to eat? Children will learn why specially adapted carnivores, herbivores, and omnivores require unique diets. Each program includes a mini zoo tour, craft, games, animal close-up, and snack. ZooKids classes are held on Saturdays from 9:30am - 12:00pm. Each ZooKids class is offered twice per month to accommodate more participants. Each month has a different theme and classes are designed so that children can come to multiple classes without repeating the same activities. Pre-registration is required. Program fee is $26.00. Zoovie Night at Oakland Zoo
Saturday, February 15, 6:30pm – 9:30pm
Wear pajamas and enjoy an evening of Zoovie magic with the whole family. Guests are invited to bring pillows, blankets, and chairs to snuggle up in the zoo's auditorium for “Madagascar 2.” Attendees will have the opportunity to meet some nocturnal animals brought to you by Roosevelt, Oakland Zoo's costumed alligator mascot. Hot chocolate (with marshmallows, of course) and popcorn will be provided, but guests are welcome to bring their own treats or snacks. Cost: $7 per adult and $7 per child to cover the costs of the Animal close-up program and snacks. Group of 4 or more people may receive a group discount of $6 per adult and $6 per child. Creek Crew Work Day at Oakland Zoo
Saturday, February 15, 9:00am – 12:00pm
Come to the Arroyo Viejo Creek and experience the local habitat, while helping it thrive. Bring gardening gloves and help clean up the creek. Work is done in rain or shine, so please come prepared. Wear close-toed shoes that can get dirty. Don't forget water and snacks. Gloves and tools will be provided, but feel free to bring additional gardening items. One adult chaperone is required for every 4 youth volunteers, 13 years of age and younger as well as one for every 8 youth volunteers between 14 - 18 years of age. Oakland Zoo’s Conservation Speaker Series Presents: Saving the Puma

Mountain Lions are in crisis, facing increased conservation issues each year as humans encroach further into their habitat. Working with landowners and state agencies, BAPP scientists are using custom GPS-accelerometer collars to track and record pumas and their activities on a continual basis. This research will enable us to develop new conservation and land use strategies to minimize human- puma conflict, and foster a healthy co-existence between humans and pumas in the region. Feast for the Beasts
Saturday, March 29, 9:00am – 3:00pm
Oakland Zoo visitors are encouraged to donate fresh produce, such as apples, watermelon, grapes, carrots, lettuce, or other delicious fruits and vegetables to help feed the animals. The first 250 guests will receive a golden ticket to spread produce in the elephant exhibit. Once all the food is in place, everyone exits the exhibit to watch the hungry herd chow down on their treats. Guests don't want to miss this one of a kind experience that the Oakland Zoo is offering. This event is included with regular Zoo admission. **Note if weather or mud is a factor, guests will not be able to enter the elephant exhibit; other arrangements for the elephant feeding will be made.
