Oaks Christian Online High School Curriculum Approved by the University of California and Student Exemplifies the Benefits
Westlake Village, CA (PRWEB) November 19, 2013 -- Oaks Christian Online School (OCO) writes online curriculum that aligns with its prestigious, college preparatory school in Westlake Village, CA. The UC system has just approved the online OCO World History course for its A-G course list, and Christian Name is taking the rigorous online course while traveling and seeing the world first hand.
Christian has been traveling his entire life. His dad was an Argentinian actor who now works for one of the largest telecommunications companies in South America. Christian’s mom is the Director for the Office of the Founder for the Jane Goodall Institute. Christian is currently living in Southern California while his parents get ready to relocate, and he will be traveling on his own to Panama in November to meet up with his mom, who he has not seen for several months. The Jane Goodall institute is a global non-profit founded by the renowned anthropologist, Jane Goodall, and it empowers people – especially young people – to make a difference. His mom is in Panama with the institute for the November Earthtrain webcast on bio-cultural leadership. Christian knows Jane Goodall well, as she has served as his adopted grandmother. “I know that Jane is inspiring to many people, but to me she is my grandma. We call and Skype, and she cracks down on my online homeschool work.”
Christian's family is from Argentina, and his father has recently worked in Peru for the past 10 months. While in Lima, Peru, Christian enjoyed living blocks from the beach and participating in outdoor adventures such as paragliding, rock climbing and off-road biking. While Christian has enjoyed the glamorous life of international travel and has learned to speak Spanish and Portunhol – a mixture of Spanish and Portuguese – fluently, he has also seen the realities of life for all levels of society in international cities such as Morocco and Lima. “I have an interest in acting like my father did, but I also have an interest in international civil rights. I’ve seen people in the upper strata of society that seem miserable with money, and I’ve seen small children happy to play on the street with a plastic bag. I’ve seen racism and poverty, and I’ve been taught by my family to make a difference there.” Studying the new OCO World History course helps to bring those realities into context for Christian.
Christian joined Oaks Christian Online High School in September because of his busy travel schedule between Washington, D.C., Peru, California and now Panama. Christian likes it that the teachers care and follow up on his pace. His parents like that they can check on all his school work while they travel. “I’ve missed school before,” says Christian, “and that’s caused me to miss work and fall behind; now I know that my work stays where I left it, and I can work ahead or catch up as soon as I have wi-fi access again.” While in southern California, Christian has also visited the new computer learning lab on the Oaks Christian campus in Westlake Village, CA, to get caught up and work ahead in preparation for his trip to Panama. Christian says, “OCO isn’t easy, but its courses are made for students who travel; they are preparing me for the world.”
