Oaks Christian Online High School Earns NCAA Approval for Online Courses
Westlake Village, CA (PRWEB) June 29, 2014 -- The National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) has approved Oaks Christian’s online high school courses. All courses that are referenced with an OCO, designating Oaks Christian Online High School, before the transcript course name can now be used towards high school athletes’ NCAA eligibility calculations. Our main campus, Oaks Christian School (OCS) in Westlake Village, CA, has been a member of NCAA since 2003 and has received national recognition for both individual and team accomplishments, and most of the high school teams compete in post-season regional and CIF championships. To date, OCS has earned 104 league titles, 32 CIF titles, 4 California state titles (football, girls cross country and girls soccer) and has produced 3 individual/relay state champions, 2 Gatorade State Players of the Year, and 1 Gatorade National Player of the Year. The high school hosts 22 different sports and 48 school teams. Each year, numerous students are recruited by colleges to play at the NCAA Division I, II, III and NAIA levels. For the classes of 2003 – 2013, 236 students have been selected as distinguished collegiate athletes. Approximately 78% of the high school student body participates on after-school varsity or JV teams, and 60% of the student athletes play two or more sports. In the Classes of 2013 & 2014, 42 student athletes signed letters of intent to play their sport at the NCAA Division I level.
Oaks Christian Online High School (OCO) has worked tirelessly for the last three years to build a rigorous, academically-honest and interactive online program for its main-campus athletes as well as for its full-time, online student athletes that have participated in such sports as soccer, hockey, football, baseball, basketball, swimming, golf, volleyball, mountain biking, lacrosse and tennis. Many of these students participate in online courses in order to provide flexibility for their busy practice and competition schedules. Although the NCAA does not prescribe specific online program components, some ways that OCO has met the NCAA’s stringent guidelines for academic honesty, college preparedness and best-practices for online learning have been by including proctored mid-term and final exams; live, online sessions with highly-qualified teachers; original course content aligned with our UC-approved, main-campus classes; on campus science labs and lab kits; a cloud-based learning management system that facilitates student and teacher interaction; as well as term-based, course-length guidelines. Paul Oberhaus, Oaks Christian’s Vice President of Business Operations/CFO, says, “I am excited that OCO now has NCAA course approval as it affirms the quality of our online school program and demonstrates that we are a serious online, Christian, college-preparatory school that matches our main campus program quality. This should open many more doors for our college-bound student athletes.”
The main campus of Oaks Christian School in Westlake Village, CA opened in the fall of 2000 and Oaks Christian Online School (OCO) opened for full-time, online students in the fall of 2011. The online high school provides a rigorous, accredited, NCAA approved, college-preparatory education for high school students all around the world in a Christian environment. Oaks Christian Online High School continues to enroll part-time and full-time students throughout the school year and regularly hosts information sessions on its main campus – 31749 La Tienda Drive, Westlake Village, CA 91362, as well as virtual information sessions for prospective student families.
