Oaks Christian Online High School Sophomore Tests Out Her Future as a Computer Engineer
Westlake Village, CA (PRWEB) October 06, 2013 -- Oaks Christian Online School Sophomore Ridley Crowley lives in Amarillo, TX, and as a full-time, online high school student is taking online computer courses this year to identify a direction for her college major. Ridley would love to go to West Texas A&M University, where her older sister attends, and study Computer Engineering. She hopes that her computer classes for this year and beyond, such as Computer Game Design 1, may help her determine her future. She’s recently discovered her love for computers and working online and says, “Oaks has given me a great deal of flexibility, but it also challenges and tests me. I don’t have to relearn things with a class; I can just keep moving ahead if I like something.”
Ridley also enjoys the pace of Christian distance learning because it works with her life as an older sister to an adopted, 9 year-old sister and 4 year-old, foster sister. The Crowley family has worked through A World for Children organization, headquartered in Round Rock, TX, to identify new family members. “I used to be the youngest in my household,” Ridley says. “I have had to learn how to share my space and my parents; I try to be a good role model.” Her youngest sister has thrived in the Crowley household and, in the last 6 months, has gained more than 13 pounds, grown 5 ½ inches and can now walk, run and climb like other children her age. “My youngest sister has had a lot of doctor’s appointments in the last few months, and working online has allowed me the flexibility to help with how she has grown and changed.”
Working online has also allowed Ridley to start fencing classes at Amarillo College, her local community college. She is taking beginning fencing to complete her high school physical education requirement and also to get her first college credits. She understands that most community college classes are not available to high school students in a traditional classroom and is grateful for the opportunity to try so many different things. “I started off last year feeling like an online homeschool student, but this year I have become more involved, and I feel like I am part of a community of learners who are excited about their college future.”
