Object Management Group Chairs Chart Progress Underway in Technology Standards
NEEDHAM, Mass. (PRWEB) April 09, 2018 -- Chairs of Object Management Group® (OMG®) Task Forces (TFs) and Special Interest Groups (SIGs) presented updates about their standards work during a plenary session on the last day of the OMG quarterly membership meeting, which took place from March 19-23 in Reston, Virginia. OMG is an international, open membership, not-for-profit technology standards consortium where members develop and maintain standards that influence the future direction of technology as well as impact industries including space, government, finance, manufacturing, robotics, retail and healthcare.
The following Chairs reported on their groups' accomplishments:
• Claude Baudoin, co-chair of the Business Modeling & Integration Domain Task Force (BMI DTF) and Owner and Principal Consultant at cébé IT and Knowledge Management: “The BMI DTF focused on the need for business requirements to be captured in a structured form that allows views, queries, and traceability. This will likely become, over the next few meeting cycles, an RFP for a new specification.”
• Dr. Ben Calloni, co-chair of the System Assurance (SysA) Task Force and a Lockheed Martin Fellow: “The SysA Task Force adopted the Tool Output Integration Framework™ specification and the Finalization Task Force was chartered.”
• Dr. Bill Curtis, Executive Director of the Consortium for IT Software Quality™ (CISQ™): “CISQ sponsored a very successful Cyber Resilience Summit on March 20 where senior government and industry officials discussed the deployment of software measurement standards and modernization.” Presentations from that event are available at http://it-cisq.org/cyber-resilience-summit-mar-2018/.
• Sanford Friedenthal, chair of the Systems Engineering Domain Special Interest Group (SE DSIG) and Consultant at SAF Consulting: “Following the issuance of the SysML® v2 RFP at the last OMG meeting in Burlingame, the SE DSIG prepared an updated draft of the complementary SysML v2 API & Services RFP, which is planned to be voted on for issuance at the next OMG meeting in Boston. This RFP enables interoperability between SysML modeling tools and other modeling tools that are part of the broader model-based engineering ecosystem.” Registration for the OMG Boston meeting is now open.
• Uwe Kaufmann, co-chair of the Manufacturing Technology and Industrial Systems Domain Task Force (ManTIS DTF) and CEO at Model Alchemy Consulting: “ManTIS focused this time on MBSE collaboration using SysML and met jointly with the OMG Model Interchange (MI) Special Interest Group (SIG) to discuss further steps to improve interoperability of MBSE tools.”
• Brad Kizzort, co-chair of the Space Domain Task Force (DTF) and Chief Technologist at Harris Corporation: “The Space DTF published version 1.2 of the XML Telemetry and Command Exchange™ (XTCE™) specification and posted the NASA Mission Control Messaging specification as an RFC, first reading.”
• Jim Logan, co-chair of the Analysis and Design Platform Task Force and Director of Semantic Technologies and Interoperability at No Magic: “The UML® Profile for ROSETTA (UPR) RFC, an object-oriented facility to structure information in support of a variety of systems analyses for relational oriented architecture description and transformation into design, was issued for comment—the first step on the road to becoming an international specification.”
• Bob Martin, chair of the Structured Assurance Case Metamodel™ (SACM™) 2.0 Finalization Task Force and Senior Principal Engineer at MITRE: “Version 2.0 of SCAM has been published.”
• Philip Newcomb, and William Ulrich, co-chairs of the OMG Architecture Driven Modernization Task Force (ADM TF) and Founder, Chairman and CEO of The Software Revolution, Inc. and, President, TSG, Inc., respectively: "Despite weather challenges, the ADMTF had a highly successful Modernization Summit."
• Ed Seidewitz, chair of the MI SIG and Chief Technology Officer at Model Driven Solutions: “The MI SIG held a joint session with the ManTIS Domain Task Force to discuss OMG standards for model interchange and the purpose of the MI SIG, with a user community that is increasingly creating and interchanging large models.” As the co-chair of the ESSENCE® 1.2 RTF, he added: “The ESSENCE 1.2 RTF completed its work one meeting cycle ahead of scheduled, delivering an update to the ESSENCE—Kernel and Language for Software Engineering Methods specification that included a number of user-driven improvements to the ESSENCE card-based graphical syntax.”
• Bobbin Teegarden, co-chair of the Agents Platform Special Interest Group (PSIG) and Chief Evangelist at No Magic: “The Agents PSIG continues supporting the AgEnt submission, which is a submission to two RFPs: Agent Metamodel and Profile RFP and the Event Metamodel and Profile RFP, including a meeting to discuss the ongoing development and progress of the submission, and emergent trends in the field. Planned for next meeting is a presentation of progress in Analysis and Design Task Force.”
• Ronald W. Townsen, co-chair of the Command, Control, Computing, Communications and Intelligence (C4I) Domain Task Force (DTF) and Chief Engineer, General Dynamics Mission Systems: “C4I DTF has continued its work in areas of Tactical Situation Displays, Data Tagging and Labeling; bringing The Open Group® Future Airborne Capability Environment (FACE™) Edition 3.0 standard as a meta-data profile to blend with the Unified Architecture Framework® (UAF®) modeling. The C4I Task Force is also waiting for DDS™ Health Monitoring and Command and Control Navigation responses to active RFPs.”
• William Ulrich, President, TSG, Inc. and co-chair of the OMG ADMTF: “OMG, in partnership with the Business Architecture Guild®, held the Sixth Annual Business Architecture Innovation Summit along with a Business Architecture Government Reference Model Workshop. Summit speakers from various organizations including: Wells Fargo Mortgage, PNC Bank, Ameriprise Financial, BMO Financial, General Dynamics, U.S. Army, FedEx, Autodesk, City of Edmonton and VSP, shared experiences and insights into how they are leveraging business architecture in practice. The Summit also included a lively panel discussion, led by Nordea Bank Corp., on the business architecture elevator pitch as well as a lightning talk that featured eight dynamic speakers, each of which delivered a six-minute lightning talk. Attendees of the government workshop got a chance to roll up their sleeves to build business architecture content focused on a cross-section of government subsectors. The Innovation Summit and a second government workshop will be offered again in Ottawa in Sept.”
• Charlotte Wales, co-chair of the Middleware and Related Services Platform Task Force (MARS) and Lead Software Engineer at MITRE: “MARS recommended two technologies for adoption—DDS for eXtremely Resource Constrained Environments (XRCE) and OPC Unified Architecture (UA)/DDS Gateway—and is embarking on a shared activity with the Finance DTF investigating what we are calling Distributed Immutable Data Objects (DIDO), e.g. Distributed Ledgers, Cryptocurrency, and Blockchains, pursuant to developing a DIDO Networks Reference Architecture."
