OCD Memoir Seeks to End Stigma Associated With Mental Illness
New York, NY (PRWEB) June 16, 2015 -- Due for release on June 30, 2015, “The Crazy and The Damned: An OCD Memoir” takes readers on a roller-coaster ride through the thought processes of an Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder sufferer. Written, in short, personal memoir form, this book is a must-read for people who are interested in mental health issues and advocacy. This perspective is invaluable to counselors, therapists, psychologists, psychiatrists and other medical personnel; as these are the individuals that the author credits with literally saving his life. It is also an extremely important read for family members, advocates and friends – from this book they can gain an understanding of the mind of the OCD sufferer they love. Published independently, author Robert Lanni leverages the ever-growing self-publishing industry’s amazing reach to bring his message to the public at http://www.ocdmemoir.com and most major online retailers.
Synopsis:
How does one describe the intrusive and disturbing thoughts that plague the mind of someone with obsessive compulsive disorder? When Robert Lanni sat down in front of his computer in January 2013, he had asked himself the same question. The answer came to him naturally by chronicling the last 4 decades of his life, then sharing it with the world. He gives real-world examples that many people might secretly identify with, such as his paralyzing inability to feed his children: prior to treatment, he could not even cook for his family for fear of spreading imagined contamination – but thanks to cognitive behavioral therapy and medication, he now prepares elaborate gourmet meals for them. The author’s goal for the book is to foster acceptance of people with mental illnesses.
The memoir describes the author’s first-hand journey from isolated suffering to outspoken wellness and recovery – he credits his newfound health to intervention, excellent care, and the love of his support group. At 146 pages, this concise work keeps life experiences that were unrelated to OCD to a bare minimum. The book presents the reader with a gripping story of pain, hope and ultimate victory over the disorder.
About The Author:
Robert Lanni, 50, makes his home in Northern New Jersey – he is a writer, computer geek, foodie, classic car lover and seeker of all things humorous. He is hopelessly addicted to surfcasting on the Jersey Shore, and finding any excuse to stop for a good cup of coffee.
Lanni has spent the bulk of his life coping with obsessive-compulsive disorder – a condition that has twice disabled him from functioning in any capacity; it has also driven him to write about his life with the disorder in the hopes of urging normalization of mental health related issues.
Always looking for the bright side, he believes that finding humor in any situation – no matter how grim – is an indispensable coping tool. He is especially fond of grey-muzzled senior dogs (he’s adopted four so far).
