Ocean Lakes Family Campground Hosts 15th Annual Polar Bear Plunge On New Year's Eve
Myrtle Beach, South Carolina (PRWEB) December 10, 2015 -- This New Year's Eve more than 300 participants are expected to take the ultimate icy challenge and immerse their bodies in the frigid waters of the Atlantic. Ocean Lakes Family Campground will host its 15th Annual Polar Bear Plunge on Thursday, December 31, 2015, at 3 p.m., at the oceanfront Observation Deck. Festivities will be open to all guests staying at the campground.
Adventurers across the United States have rushed into the cold waters for more than 100 years, usually in the name of charity. Ocean Lakes began their exhilarating winter tradition in 1999 when three courageous souls took a dive into the ocean, kicking off the annual event.
“The Ocean Lakes Polar Bear Plunge definitely offers a shot of adrenaline for participants and a fun way for our guests to celebrate New Year's Eve at the beach,” said Barb Krumm, Director of Marketing and Public Relations at Ocean Lakes Family Campground. “Our guests are freezin' for a reason to help charities and food banks in our area.”
Participants will be asked to bring two non-perishable canned items and pay a $6 yearly membership fee for the event. The membership will include entry into the Polar Bear Plunge, a t-shirt naming participants a “Polar Bear,” bragging rights and warm refreshments.
Participants are asked to sign up in advance at the Recreation Office by noon that day.
