From now through September 7, people of all ages are being encouraged to camp in parks, campgrounds and backyards across the country.

Tents have changed from multiple room tents with a private front porch to inflatable tents that can withstand up to 100 MPH winds. Today's campgrounds have also gone up a notch to appeal to consumers who want the luxury of a resort while they are housed in their own private, amenity-rich RVs. The most popular of today's campgrounds are no longer rustic places that only offer spaces with hookups to water and electricity.
The largest campground on the East Coast and one of the largest in the United States, Ocean Lakes Family Campground in Myrtle Beach, S.C., is a great example of how campgrounds have been evolving to please today's campers. Ocean Lakes also holds events throughout the year for the exclusive entertainment of campers who are staying there. Some of the events include Beach 'n Boogie, Bluegrass Weekend, and a Polar Bear Plunge.
Sometimes events are so popular that Ocean Lakes has to stretch them just so campers can get in. When there was no more space to accommodate campers who wanted to attend the popular Halloween Weekend, Ocean Lakes duplicated Halloween activities over two more weekends so that more people could enjoy the costume contests and entertainment.
Named the National “Park of the Year” (in the Mega Park category) by the National Association of RV Parks and Campgrounds (ARVC) five times, Ocean Lakes continues to upgrade the camping experience in response to its guests' requests.
