Offshore Worker Lawyers Offer Legal Information After Hercules Rig Blowout
Houston, TX (PRWEB) July 31, 2013 -- Local and federal officials are scrambling to control the physical and environmental damage from the Hercules 265 well blowout, which caused the natural gas rig to catch on fire and collapse this week. In the wake of this offshore disaster, Jones Act attorneys at VB Attorneys urge all offshore oil and gas workers to learn about their rights to a safe work environment and to compensation after an on-the-job accident.
According to CNN and the Associated Press, the natural gas rig accident took place late on Tuesday night about 50 miles off of the coast of Louisiana in the Gulf of Mexico. The rig, which is leased by Houston-based Walter Oil & Gas Corporation and owned by Hercules Offshore, suffered a blowout and fire that necessitated the rescue of all 44 workers aboard the craft. At this time, the fire has been extinguished and the well naturally blocked itself off.
“I am hopeful that the reports of nobody being injured are correct,” said Texas Jones Act attorney Brian Beckcom, “but I am concerned that these incidents continue to occur—and that the next time, the lives of offshore workers may be affected. It is our job to protect the legal rights of these men and women and to help keep those responsible accountable for any damage caused.”
Currently, the Bureau of Safety and Environmental Enforcement (BSEE) is investigating the offshore accident. A relief well—which would cut off the flow of natural gas from the damaged rig—may need to be dug.
“Our website is home to hundreds of accurate and easy-to-understand articles about offshore accidents, offshore worker injuries, and financial compensation after on-the-job accidents,” said Beckcom. “This recent accident is a strong reminder for workers and their families to educate and protect themselves—both after a serious injury and before an accident ever happens.”
