Columbus, Ohio (PRWEB) May 24, 2014 -- Ohio Veterans United (OVU) recently endorsed U.S. Army Veteran Val Hoover for Judge of the Franklin County Common Pleas Court. “Val Hoover has a unique combination of veteran and civilian experience that ranges from her time as Private First Class at age 17 in the Criminal Law Division on base to serving six Ohio Attorney Generals as Special Counsel,” said Harry Prestanksi, executive director and founding member of OVU. “We believe that Val Hoover epitomizes the core leadership values we look for and are proud to endorse her candidacy.”
As a teenager, Hoover was stationed at Fort Carson, Colorado where she graduated first in her legal specialist training class and was named bailiff to a military judge who oversaw court martial proceedings. After being honorably discharged, Hoover graduated with High Honors from both Miami University and University of Dayton Law School where she served on the Law Review and the school’s Honor Code Committee.
Following law school, Hoover served as a Judicial Attorney for the Ninth District Court of Appeals and later as the senior Judicial Attorney for Ohio Supreme Court Justice Deborah Cook. She served as a Special Counsel under Ohio Attorney Generals Betty Montgomery, Jim Petro, Marc Dann, Nancy Rogers, Richard Cordray, and Mike DeWine.
Hoover also was a partner for 15 years in law firms with offices in Columbus and Cleveland. “In private practice I focused on complex business litigation and learned that decisions made in the courtroom have a vast impact on our communities, whether it relates to job creation or keeping our loved ones safe,” said Hoover. “As a veteran I am tremendously honored to be endorsed by OVU, an organization that not only educates citizens about strong national defense, but also believes in responsible spending and free-market enterprise.”
Hoover is a member of the Ohio State Bar Association, the Columbus Bar Association and has also served as President of the Ohio Women’s Bar Association and as the first President of the Ohio Women’s Bar Foundation. Hoover is a graduate of, and board member for, the Jo Ann Davidson Leadership Institute, and has been active in her community, serving as a Trustee for Columbus State Community College, and the Mock Trial Coach of Woodpark Middle School in Columbus since 2006.
